Samsung’s next smartwatch chipset is the W930. The name was located in a certification on the Bluetooth database, along with the model number S5E5515. Interestingly, this is the same model number as the W920 used in the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 series, suggesting that the W930 will likely feature better binning while retaining the same hardware.

The W930 supports Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi and will be built on the same 5nm process as the W920 that currently powers Samsung’s wearables. The certification states that the processor needs an additional RF chip for a complete Bluetooth + Wi-Fi solution.

So what happened to the alleged W980? Maybe it was just a temporary name and the final chip will be called W930. Another less likely possibility is that the W980 is a high-end SoC still in development. A final, even less likely option is that the W980 will power the Galaxy Watch6 Pro, while the W930 will power the Watch6.

Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Watch6 family on July 26, with OneUI 5 Watch, based on Wear OS 4. The series will bring back the rotating bezel.
