Motorola unveiled its adaptive display concept in October 2023 at Lenovo’s Tech World. But until now we haven’t had the chance to play it.
So what is Motorola’s adaptive display concept? Simply put, it’s a foldable device that attaches to your wrist via a strap attachment.
Surprisingly, once opened, the concept looks just like a regular smartphone, with a 6.9-inch display diagonal.
The self-contained strap uses magnets to secure the concept to your wrist.
Here’s the fun part. Fold conceptual device. It’s surprisingly sturdy and it feels strangely nice to fold it outwards. It has a stop point and it just doesn’t seem to bend too much. We didn’t try to force it, though.

Then comes the fun part. Wear the adaptive display concept on your wrist. The magnets grip quickly, but leave us with the uneasy feeling that it wouldn’t take such a big jolt to dislodge the device from our wrists.
The UI is smart enough to recognize when the foldable is in wrist mode and places a large clock widget at the top. It’s a full side-scrolling interface but is very limited. You don’t get apps but widgets and most are not optimized for the half screen.
The Motorola adaptive display concept
Motorola’s adaptive display concept is just that: a concept. You won’t be able to buy it anytime soon. This is more of an exercise in what Motorola is capable of in the foldable space.
