Tomorrow is the big day if you are a fan of Samsung’s foldable Galaxy Z series. The next generation of Wear OS-based Galaxy watches is also on the way as well as a new pair of TWS gems. While Samsung isn’t big on teasers, numerous leaks mean we have a pretty clear picture of what to expect.

Major improvements on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4

The basic design for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 remains the same, although the aspect ratio is expected to change to make both displays shorter and wider. This means 23: 9 for the cover display and 6: 5 for the main display (compared to 24.5: 9 and 6.2: 5 on the Fold3). This could be a major usability improvement for those who found the lid display too high to reach the top or too narrow to type comfortably. Also, the bezels will be smaller.

There’s more. Samsung apparently redesigned the hinge to reduce creasing. It is not entirely clear whether this means it will close flat or not. Further leaks show that Samsung made the camera less visible below the display by increasing the pixel density in the display area above it. The new displays will apparently use new materials: Super UTG on the inside and Victus + on the outside.

A leak from a Bosnian carrier confirmed the improved camera setup: 50MP main, 12MP 3x telephoto and 12MP ultra wide angle, compared to 12MP main, 12MP 2x telephoto and 12MP ultra wide angle on the old Fold. The Z Fold4 also briefly appeared on Amazon, which revealed that the two displays will have a 120Hz refresh rate.

The phone will obviously be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It will be paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. There should also be a 128GB version, although it wasn’t available from either the courier or on Amazon. But the supposed 1TB version is almost certainly not happening.

Z fold 4 Z fold 3
256 GB € 1,864 € 1,800
512 GB € 1,982 € 1,900

The phone’s battery capacity is expected to remain the same, rated at 4,400mAh, and the phone will likely stick to the 25W charging system. However, an optimized charging curve is said to speed things up – half an hour of charging will take. a battery discharged to 50%, instead of only 33% as on the previous model.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is expected to cost roughly the same as its predecessor. One retailer listed the 256GB model at € 1,846 and the 512GB model at just under € 2,000. Here is a price comparison table. The Z Fold4 will be available in beige, black and gray-green, even burgundy red.

Small changes to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4

The displays of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 will follow the measurements of the previous model. This means a 6.7-inch internal display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,640 pixels. Some rumors have claimed that the cover display will be larger (2.1 “), although the latest information suggests it will stick to the original 1.9”.

The leak from the Bosnian carrier also showed that the two cameras in addition to the lid display will continue to use 12MP sensors (for both wide and ultra wide lenses). The selfie camera remains at 10 MP.

The Z Flip4 may feature a new hinge and screen materials as well, but live photos show that there will still be a gap between the two halves when the phone is closed.

The listed measurements of the Z Flip4 are slightly larger: 167.9 x 73.6 x 7.2mm compared to 166 x 72.2 x 6.9mm on last year’s model. The weight is apparently the same at 183g. This is a bit surprising considering the larger battery: 3,700mAh, compared to 3,300mAh. It’s not huge at all, but it has the same battery capacity as the Galaxy S22.

EZ Flip4 will use the more efficient Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. This could result in longer battery life, which will be greatly appreciated. The larger battery can be paired with a jump to 25W of charging (from 15W), while wireless charging will likely stay the same at 10W.

Either way, the 8+ Gen 1 chip will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There will be a dual-SIM version. As for the cost of the device, a small price increase is expected, which rises to 1,080 euros for the 128 GB base model, compared to 1,050 euros. The 256GB drive will cost € 1,160 and the new memory option, 512GB, is expected to cost € 1,280.

Galaxy Unpacked: What to Expect

A leak from Samsung Care + UK has confirmed that there will be a bespoke edition, which will allow users to customize the colors of the Galaxy Z Flip4. Aside from that, there should be a new color Bora Purple (more on that in a bit), Blue, Graphite and Pink Gold.

Pro watch coming soon, rotating bezels are a thing of the past

Samsung is expected to launch three Galaxy Watch5 models, two 40mm and 44mm vanilla and a 45mm Watch5 Pro. The leaked official renderings have confirmed what was said months ago: there will be no rotating bezel. If there is a “Galaxy Watch5 Classic”, it will not launch tomorrow.

Both Watch5 models will apparently switch from Gorilla Glass in favor of Sapphire Crystal. They will be rated for 5 ATM water resistance and will have GPS on board (those two things aren’t really surprising, of course).

The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 will have slightly larger batteries: 276mAh on the 40mm model and 397mAh on the 44mm model, up to 29mAh and 36mAh compared to the respective Watch4 models. The Watch5 Pro will have an even larger 572mAh battery. Judging by the certifications of the new wireless charger, the watches will charge faster at 10W.

The new models will arrive with the latest Wear OS 3.5 and One UI Watch 4.5. Updates include a new QWERTY keyboard, support for Bluetooth calling with dual-SIM phones, new accessibility options, and more.

Finally, let’s talk about connectivity and pricing. The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 40mm Bluetooth-only model will retail for € 300, the one with LTE will be € 350. Going up to the size of 44mm, prices should be € 350 for the Bluetooth one and € 400 for the LTE one. Compared to the Watch4 equivalents, this is a € 30/50 price increase.

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro will only be available in the 45mm format and will cost € 490 if you don’t want LTE connectivity or € 540 if you do. Either way, you’re looking at a higher price point than the Watch4 Classic at launch.

Stronger Galaxy Buds2 Pro with better ANC

Leaked data shows that the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro will have 10mm drivers and 5.3mm tweeters (versus the original Buds Pro’s 11mm and 6.5mm). Audio will be transferred via Bluetooth 5.3, 360 audio will be supported as before.

More microphones on the buds will enable “intelligent active noise cancellation,” squeezing 33 dB of noise (a huge improvement over the 20 dB of the previous Buds Pro). The microphones will provide a high quality HD vocal pickup.

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro will boast IPX water resistance, which means they can survive submersion up to 1m underwater for half an hour. Battery life is roughly the same with 8 hours of playback with ANC off and 29 hours total with the charging case (which will accept power via USB-C or wireless). Putting the Buds back in their case for 5 minutes will give you 55 minutes of listening.

The Pro Gems are expected to go on sale August 26 for € 230 in Europe and $ 230 in the US (the original Buds Pro cost € 230 / $ 200). They will be available in Zenith Gray, Zenith White and Bora Purple.

Diversi

The new Bora Purple version of the Samsung Galaxy S22 goes on sale tomorrow, August 10th. Only the little S22 will get the new color as far as we know (and as you may have noticed, the Buds2 Pro has a matching colorway). The Bora Purple S22 will set you back € 850 / $ 800.

Galaxy Unpacked: What to Expect

Samsung has also started rolling out the first public beta of One UI 5, available for Galaxy S22 series phones in the US, Germany and South Korea. The company detailed some of the improvements made by the new Android-based system. 13, but we expect to learn more about the software and rollout roadmap tomorrow.
