As expected, ZTE presented a space edition of the Axon 40 Ultra – this edition has more memory than you may know what to do with it. And it has a more premium build than the already high-end original.
ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Space Edition lets you choose between two memory capacities: one with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, and a top-of-the-line model with 18GB RAM and 1TB storage. This is the sequel to a similar edition from last year based instead on the Axon 30 Ultra.

As you can see, the design is a little different from the regular Ultra. The back panel has been replaced with one made of ceramic material. ZTE has also reworked the bump of the camera: instead of a discrete island it now merges smoothly with the back. The ceramic was created in a special mold to create a special texture on the surface.

Like the regular Ultra, the Space Edition has a dedicated security chip, developed by ZTE. The company says it has passed national commercial encryption tests and received three major international security and privacy certifications.
The phone is mostly the same as the regular Ultra. That means a 6.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a 16MP camera under the display. Inside is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset and a 5,000mAh battery, however, charging has been boosted from 65W to 80W. The rear camera system uses three 64MP sensors: one for the wide cam (35mm lens), one for ultra wide angle (16mm) and one for periscope (91mm).

The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra Space Edition is already available for pre-order in China and will start shipping on December 6th. it costs CNY 7,700 ($1,075/€1,035/₹88,000). The special edition phone also comes in a bespoke box with a protective case (that fits the new shape of the camera bump).
