Microsoft has released another update for its Windows 11 operating system with a host of new features. Some of them have been promised by Microsoft and others have been requested by users, such as quick access to the Task Manager by right-clicking on the taskbar.

Adding tabs to the Windows default File Explorer is probably the biggest change. Just like in a modern web browser, you can open several file directories at the same time, shown in the tabs. There is also an option to block the ones you use the most.

The deeper integration of OneDrive lets you track changes and comments on files shared with colleagues, for example, and Windows 11 can now suggest commonly used actions and contacts to share files with. In addition, the system is able to recognize future dates so that you can click and add an event to your Calendar or various types of texts such as phone numbers, emails, etc. Windows will highlight that text and allow you to call using Phone Link, Teams, or Skype.

The Taskbar Overflow feature isn’t new to Windows in general, but it’s a welcome addition to Windows 11 in particular. You can now add more apps to the taskbar, and an “overflow” button will allow you to see any remaining blocked apps.

Sharing files to other devices and apps is now easier even if the files are in local storage or even on the desktop.

The Photos app looks forward to a big update as Microsoft plans to introduce a better gallery with simplified navigation, sorting, and location management. There’s also deeper integration in the menu for easier OneDrive backup.

The update is apparently available for those who have chosen the optional non-security preview version, while a larger rollout is expected next month alongside the security update.
