We spent some time with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 during the Galaxy Unpacked process and you can read our hands-on review to get a sneak peek at the new foldable flagship. However, there were things we couldn’t and didn’t test back then.
Our usual detailed tests are about to begin as a test unit is already in the office. It is in the standard Phantom Black colourway rather than the Greygreen that we initially handled (which Samsung designated the hero color for this generation).
The retail package includes the phone itself, a USB-C to C cable, and a SIM ejector. No, the $ 1,800 / € 1,800 / £ 1,650 phone doesn’t have a charger in the box either. The only reason the box is so large is that the phone comes open, keeping its internal 7.6 “display stretched.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 is rated for a 25W charge, the same as its predecessor. Thanks to some changes, however, the phone now charges faster: according to official numbers, it will go from zero to 50% in half an hour. In our tests the Z Fold3 only rose to 33% over the same period. Keep in mind that you’ll need a 25W USB Power Delivery charger to get the fastest possible charging (or a 15W wireless charger if you don’t feel like plugging it in).
Another thing we’re excited to test is the camera. It’s still not up to the standard set by the S22 Ultra, but at least it should match the S22 / S22 +. It uses the same 50MP GN3 sensor as the two S22 models (1 / 1.57 “, 1.0µm pixel) and the same telephoto lens with 10MP sensor and 3x lens.
