The Red Magic 7 series was unveiled in February with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Today the gaming brand announced an “S” update, which (predictably) makes the leap to Qualcomm’s revamped flagship chip.

Main features: Red Magic 7S
Key Features: Red Magic 7S Pro

Main features: Red Magic 7S • Red Magic 7S Pro

Red Magic 7S and 7S Pro are both powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Both models have a built-in cooling fan, which not only keeps the chipset running at optimum temperatures, but also helps cool the charging system and battery. .

The 7S has several memory configurations to choose from: 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of UFS 3.1 memory. The Pro model takes a quantum leap: 12GB, 16GB, 18GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage.

The vanilla phone comes with a 4,500mAh battery and 120W fast charging. Well, it actually comes with a 165W GaN charger that you can use for other electronic devices as well (such as a laptop), but the phone reaches a maximum of 120 W. The Pro model reaches up to a 5,000 mAh battery with 135 W charging (0-50% in 5 minutes, 0-100% in 15 minutes). Again, both phones use the fan to keep temperatures in check while charging.

Speaking of cooling, the 7S has a 9-layer system, the 7S Pro comes with a 10-layer system. This includes a reworked fan with a “shark fin” design that increases air pressure and slightly reduces noise. Obviously, the 8 + Gen 1 has a natural tendency to run at lower temperatures than the original chip, but it will still benefit from active cooling.

The two S-phones use the same displays as their predecessors. This means a 6.8 “10-bit AMOLED panel with 1,080 x 2,400 px resolution with DC attenuation on both. However, the 7S display operates at 165Hz (720Hz touch sampling), while the Pro display operates at” only “120Hz (960Hz touch sampling).

What does it give? The Red Magic 7S Pro has a camera below the display, which leaves the front intact. Note that the resolution has been halved to 8MP compared to the original 7 Pro. The vanilla phone also avoids notches and holes as Red Magic managed to cram the selfie camera into the thin top bezel. The rear cameras (despite the different arrangement) are the same: 64 MP main, 8 MP ultra wide angle and 2 MP macro.

The Red Magic 7S series has a number of features that gamers have come to expect. This includes a 3.5mm jack for wired headphone connections, two shoulder triggers (520Hz touch sample rate) and, of course, RGB lighting. On the vanilla phone this comes with the clear version (the fan has RGB lights), the Pro has RGB illuminated elements on the back.

Both phones can be pre-ordered in China starting today, sales will begin on the 15th (Friday, note that payment for pre-ordered units is due on Thursday). They come with Redmagic 5.5 out of the box (also based on Android 12).

The Red Magic 7S starts at CNY 4,000 for the 8/128 GB model (which converts to $ 600 / € 590 / ₹ 47,500), the 12/256 GB one costs CNY 4,800. Add CNY 100 more if you want the Deuterium Transparent Edition. The 16 / 512GB model is only available with deuterium finishes for CNY 5,500.

The Red Magic 7S Pro starts at CNY 5,200 for the 12/256 GB model ($ 775 / € 765 / ₹ 61,500). Two deuterium clear versions are available (black and white), costing CNY 100 more. Again, the 16 / 512GB memory configuration is only available with the Deuterium design. The 18GB / 1TB version will come later.

Red Magic joked that the 7S Pro is “coming soon” to the international market (the vanilla model isn’t, apparently). For Series 7 which took place in April, a couple of months after launching in China. Speaking of which, the launch prices are effectively the same as the original series, taking into account the lack of a 12 / 128GB version of the 7S Pro. The 7 Pro costs $ 800 / £ 680 / € 800 for a 16 / 256GB went global.

Oh, and don’t miss the Transformers themed add-ons available too:
