Kuo noted that the “development of Apple’s 5G modem chip may have failed” and that Qualcomm will continue to be the only 5G chip supplier for Apple’s 2023 iPhones. Shortly after the release of Kuo’s report, Qualcomm’s shares rose more than 3%. As for CNBCQualcomm previously planned to provide 20% of 5G modems for iPhones in 2023.

2. I believe Apple will continue to develop its own 5G chips, but by the time Apple succeeds and can replace Qualcomm, Qualcomm’s other new businesses should have grown enough to significantly offset the negative impacts caused by the loss of orders for the 5G iPhone chips. .– 郭明 錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) Ġunju 28, 2022
Apple’s 5G modems are reportedly still in development. Kuo predicts that Apple’s chips will eventually replace Qualcomm’s 5G modems on the new iPhones. When Apple is ready, Qualcomm is expected to have diversified and grown enough to offset the revenue impact it would have faced once Apple moved away from Qualcomm modems.
