Battery capacities for the upcoming iPhone 16 family were made public today, but keep in mind that the source is unprecedented in terms of accuracy, so take them with a greater dose of skepticism than we usually recommend.
The iPhone 16 is said to have a 3,561 mAh battery, which is 6% larger than that of its predecessor, while the iPhone 16 Plus will apparently make do with a 4,006 mAh battery, which is 9% smaller than that that the iPhone 15 Plus had to play with. It’s not uncommon for a new model to have a slightly smaller battery, but it’s also not something that happens often.
As for the Pro models, the iPhone 16 Pro is said to have a 3,355 mAh battery, 2.5% larger than that of its predecessor, while the Pro Max will have a 4,676 mAh battery, 5% larger larger than the iPhone 15 Pro. That of Max.
This is the first time battery capacity for all four iPhone 16 models has been leaked, and the numbers match a previous rumor, although that one omitted the iPhone 16 Pro.
As for the smaller battery on the iPhone 16 Plus, in real life this size difference could be mitigated by efficiency improvements in the SoC, the screen, or both, so even if this were to work, there’s probably no reason to panic.
