Google Pixel phones were among the first to support HDR+ photography, and the company is reportedly planning to take it a step further with the Pixel 8 series.
Skond Kuba Wojciechowskisource code in the Google Camera Go app has revealed that 2023 pixels will have offset HDR, a solution that allows the sensor to capture different exposures at the same time with the same pixels.
Long story short, courtesy of Google we’ve gotten a clean, non-obfuscated version of Google Camera Go, which includes references that seemingly confirm that the flagship Pixels in 2023 – the Husky and Shiba – will support offset HDR. pic.twitter.com/YdaWTlGznN

Currently, Google uses ISOCELL GN1 sensors in the Pixel 7 series, but the Samsung camera chip doesn’t support offset HDR. We expect Pixel 8 phones to feature ISOCELL GN2, which features the latest advances in high dynamic range mobile photography.
Staggered HDR is better than regular HDR because it achieves the same effect in a shorter time without the blur that occurs if the device moves while taking the photo.
The Go app’s source code has also revealed a device, internally called the Pixel Tangor Pro, which is essentially a Pro version of a Pixel Tablet. Google has yet to roll out a Pixel-branded slate, and we could see not one but two tablets in the near future.
