IDC’s report on the global smartphone market in the first quarter of 2024 revealed that Samsung has regained the top spot from Apple, but this was more due to Apple’s lower sales than Samsung’s higher sales.

Samsung shipped 60.1 million smartphones in total in the first quarter, which is 0.7% fewer than the same quarter in 2023 with 60.5 million. However, Apple’s 50.1 million in the first quarter of 2024 is down nearly 10% from the same period last year.

The global market recorded its third consecutive positive quarter with 289.4 million units shipped, up 7.8% year-over-year.
